Entropia Universe Version Updates

This archive preserves the complete history of Entropia Universe Version Updates, documenting the technical evolution of the platform and the development of its virtual worlds. Each update represents a snapshot in the ongoing transformation of the universe, from early system foundations and gameplay mechanics to major graphical upgrades, planetary expansions, and platform milestones.

The release notes collected here provide insight into how the real-cash economy virtual universe has evolved over time — including engine transitions, interface redesigns, new systems, balance adjustments, and community-driven improvements. Together they form a chronological technical record of the changes that shaped Entropia Universe from its early years to the modern era.

Use the search function to explore specific Version Updates, locate historical features, or trace how particular systems and mechanics have developed across different eras of the universe.

Some Version Update release notes are currently missing or temporarily unavailable due to the migration from PlanetCalypsoForum to the new Entropia Forum. PlanetCalypsoForum historically served as a primary archival source for Entropia Universe VU documentation, and some older or recent VU posts may not have migrated cleanly or may still be unavailable while the forum transition settles.

New Features and Additions

The new features and additions are detailed below this list:

  • Voice Chat System
  • Vehicle Additions
  • Social Media Interconnect Services

Voice Chat System

Communication between participants is a key component of life in Entropia Universe, and it is now getting even better with the introduction of Voice Chat. MindArk is cooperating with Ericsson to create a service unique to Entropia Universe with advanced functionality that integrates into the game play on the planets. In a first step this enables secure voice communication between participants; you can voice chat with avatars on your Friend List as well as others you encounter in-game.

The Voice Chat system that is launched in this release is a first small step in a much bigger project to enhance the communication interface for our participants and Planet Partners. Examples of future functionality are proximity-sensitive chatting and a variety of call-out services. Proximity is used for 3D voice chat and takes distance and topology into account, adding to the experience of environmental interaction and when groups of avatars are chatting. With the call-out services it will be possible for an avatar to call outside Entropia Universe and vice versa.
In-game updates:

  • Added voice chat actions in the Friend List UI and in the Avatar context menu.
  • Added adjusting options for voice chat devices and volume in the Options UI.

For legal terms regarding the Voice Chat system see Voice Communication Service - Terms of Use.

Quality and Performance
Since long it has been a goal for MindArk to implement voice chat in Entropia Universe. For the past two years we have evaluated different options, looking at how this could be achieved without making bandwidth an issue as well as assuring that such a system will be a strong fundament for future development in this area. In order to support a focus on the game play MindArk has collaborated with Ericssonto develop a gate from Entropia Universe to Ericsson's communication system, enabling a clear focus on quality and a strategy for sustained long term development.

We have put great effort into making this a system with the following qualities:

  • Anonymity. You only have to see an avatar or have them on your Friend List to be able to suggest voice chat with anyone - and all they see is your Entropia Universe alias.
  • Security. All voice traffic is sent via Ericsson's servers to avoid revealing your IP address to the other part.
  • Privacy. Other participants cannot listen to a private conversation (a conversation between a restricted amount of participants).
  • Easy access. The service is available directly through your Entropia Universe account with no need to download a 3rd party client.
  • Tailor made for Entropia Universe. To enhance the Entropia Universe experience this system is tailor made to fit the conditions in Entropia Universe.
  • Stable network. The Voice Chat is a reliable service with redundant bandwidth capability.

Implementing above qualities means heavy investments and use of external resources. Therefore, the Voice Chat services are available for a subscription fee, see the Subscription Fee section below. However, it is important to MindArk to minimize the cost of using this system for each individual participant. Although this already is a premium service it will be launched at a reduced and low cost, see the Release Offers section below.

Subscription Fee
The regular subscription fee is 10 PED, however, see the release offers below.

Note: The subscription is based on a fee that is paid in beforehand, allowing free usage of the system for the coming 30-day period. At any time you can choose to not continue to pay this fee and the subscription is put on hold.
Release Offers

  • If you, before starting to use the Voice Chat, have made a deposit or will make one, between August 29, 2010 and October 28, 2010 you will get your first 30 days of Voice Chat for free!
  • The cost is reduced to 8 PED per 30-day period, during the first 90 days of operation.

Vehicle Additions
This release presents three new types of vehicles: hovercraft, boat and VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing).

The new VTOL aircraft will safely take you up in the sky where you can watch the world from new angles. This is the first step towards opening up the hangars and making the space ships airborne, which will happen in the near future.

Do you prefer the water? Hop on the boat and take some quick turns while enjoying the water splashing all around you.

The hovercraft is functional on both land and water. Weapon assembly is available for the hovercraft just as for the already introduced cars.

Tip! Take care of the vehicles and be careful! Collisions can now damage them. However, you can lessen the damage by staying seated even when the going gets tough; the damage is greater without any crew seated at all. Note that only the SI is affected by collisions, not vehicle deterioration.

Actions and their default control mappings for airborne vehicles:
  • Move up - Left Shift (new key mapping). Alternatively, hold left and right mouse buttons down and move mouse forwards.
  • Move down - Left Ctrl (new key mapping). Alternatively, hold left and right mouse buttons down and move mouse backwards.
  • Strafe Left - A
Note: For airborne vehicles, this action results in left rotation.
  • Strafe right - D
Note: For airborne vehicles, this action results in right rotation.
  • Rotate left - Z. Alternatively hold left and right mouse buttons down and move to the left.
Note: For airborne vehicles, this action results in left strafe.
  • Rotate right - C. Alternatively hold left and right mouse buttons down and move to the right.
Note: For airborne vehicles, this action results in right strafe.
  • Move Forwards - W. Alternatively hold left and right mouse buttons down.
  • Move Backwards - S
  • Auto move - R.

Control mappings for ground and water vehicles are the same as for the already included cars. The following default control mappings are added:

  • Move Forwards - Hold left and right mouse buttons down. (Previous default key mapping, W, is still vaild.)
  • Auto move - R. Added possibility for automatic driving, using the R key. This functions in the same way as when using R for automatic running or walking.

Additional vehicle improvements:

  • Vehicle Inventory will now be closed at vehicle recalling.
  • Added range limit to vehicle action Pick Up.
  • Vehicles will physically move when hit by explosion from, for example, grenade launcher.
  • Improved explosion effect when a vehicle is destroyed.
  • Added control information in the vehicles' Item Info.
  • Creatures don't attack flying vehicles.

Interconnect Services
Implemented Interconnect services for Social Media services in order to help participants communicate beyond the community that exists in-game. At this moment the services include posting in-game events relating to your Avatar to the Facebook and Twitter channels. For further information, log in to "My Account" through your planet web site.

For legal terms regarding the Interconnect Services see Entropia Universe Interconnect Services – Terms and conditions (T&C).

In addition to this service Entropia Universe now has a Twitter channel: http://twitter.com/EntropiaNews

Improvements and Fixed Issues

Installation
  • Fixed issue with the system requiring administrator permission for Windows Vista and later with UAC enabled: Install Entropia Universe in a folder other than Program Files or another folder that requires administration rights to write in.

Web and E-mail
  • All e-mails sent to account users will have a sender reflecting the Planet Partner owning the planet where the account is created. Currently the following valid addresses are [email protected] and [email protected]. Remember to update your mail filters.

  • Fixed issue with sound for vehicle assembly terminal.
  • Modified sound when vehicle reaches 0% health.
  • Resized Mouse help window to display included text.

  • Added possibility for detaching single attachments from an item.
  • Added possibility to attach items by drag and drop the attachment icon to the other item's Item Info window.
  • Removed item limit in the carried Inventory. However, more than 200 items in the carried Inventory limits the avatar's speed.

RESETTLEMENT UPDATE

It has been one full year since the Frontier re-opened after the impact of War Titan Typhon. On the very anniversary of the impact, the Robots started a new offensive against humans after staying away for years. There have been a lot of speculations of the reasons why; the most popular theory speaks of a field test of a new kind of Robot technology, derived from the notorious Scylla kept locked away under a bunker at Zychion.

The new Scylla-type technology apparently allows robots to evolve, and has so far manifested itself as the Hydra – several times. Brave colonists have so far repelled the hydra seven times, thanks to a superhuman effort by alert intelligence gatherers and brilliant code crackers.

Key intelligence about the Hydra and its Scylla-type technology was handed over from the RX units. It is still not known why the alleged hybrid-robot enemies decided to help humans. Their motives remain a mystery, and CDF would like to remind everyone that any kind of collaboration with the enemy is considered treason.

CALYPSO GATEWAY
The entrance to a world of opportunity and adventure

Introducing Calypso Gateway, the new content release from First Planet Company features a new entry point to the Entropia experience. For many years, Calypso colonist newcomers have started their new life on the busy streets of Port Atlantis, left with nothing but their bare hands and an orange jumpsuit. They have had a world of possibility to explore, but often the experience has proven daunting or overpowering. We expect this addition to Calypso to change that.

The Calypso Gateway is a secluded area consisting of an arrival terminal located on an island. After the avatar creation process, this will be the first point-of-contact with the game. Calypso Gateway features several introduction missions (“quests”), in which equipment is handed to the newly arrived to introduce him to the Colonist experience. Newcomers will be able to engage in hunting, mining and crafting, using the equipment given. The tutorial-like mission structure allow the newcomers to learn about Calypso, the Real Cash Economy model and the way the basic features work – all within a calm environment. The Gateway is a place where newcomers get at chance to interact and learn, without many of the distractions found elsewhere on Calypso, as the area is off-limits for all other colonists. Once you take the one-way teleporter to go to Port Atlantis on mainland Calypso you can never go back.

Open house event

For the veteran colonists who already have arrived and who wants to see this new area, FPC will host an open house event of Calypso Gateway for one week, allowing two-way teleportation to and from mainland Calypso. During this time, newcomers will still arrive at Port Atlantis.

During the open house period, in order to get the full newcomer experience, we recommend that you put all your avatar gear in storage on mainland Calypso (there are no storage or TT:s on Gateway) and travel to the area and engage in the missions. Your feedback is also welcome and allows us to iron out potential bugs or tweak missions before the newcomers try them out.

After the event, the Gateway will be updated, the newcomer starting point till be moved from Port Atlantis to Calypso Gateway and the teleporter will be made one-way-only. Any avatars present at the Gateway will be moved to mainland Calypso during this update. The reason for this is to allow newcomers to take their time and try out things without the stress of traders, chat message spam, a lot of strange terminology, etc.

New colonists may leave Calypso Gateway for Port Atlantis at any time; they are is in no way required to stay and complete the quests, but may leave whenever they wish.

NEW FEATURES

More missions

New mission features have been introduced to the Gateway. Also, the existing quests have been adjusted to work with the new features, including a new Mission Terminal feature in Fort Troy. In addition to that, there are five new Iron Challenges, and four of the old Iron Challenges have been expanded with Bronze Challenges.

And it doesn’t even end there: there is also a mission chain at Cayuze. An old rivalry may appear again and with it, some not too obvious choices for participants.
All in all, there are 45 brand new missions in this release!

Improved creatures

Berycled, Caudatergus and Tripudion have had an overhaul to provide a completely new audio-visual experience. They now look and sound a lot better!

Race on!

Two new race tracks have been added, one near Chug’s Hideout and one on the island west of Memorial Island. The area around the Oil Rig in PvP has had an overhaul to accommodate an arena with two forts for high-octane PvP vehicle combat.

RESETTLEMENT UPDATE

A mysterious shuttle has crashed into the ocean near Cayuze outpost. As the shuttle is unmarked and nobody has claimed the salvage rights, Ishido Salvage Operations bought the salvage rights. Contact Fujiko Takida near Cayuze outpost for details about the shuttle crash.

Calypso Firearms Association expands the astounding success of the Iron Challenges. CFA is proud to announce the Bronze Challenge, four more challenges expanding on the most popular existing Iron Challenges. Five new Iron Challenges have also been issued, and on top of that, the acknowledged action movie star Stephan Wurmsteiger to host the Aurli challenge!

Entropia Universe 11.2.0 Release Notes
Entropia Universe 11.2.0 Release Notes
21 Jun 2010

The 11.2.0 Release Notes contains information on the new Vehicle system and, below that, information on general improvements and fixed issues in this release. Additionally, some information on the upcoming expansion of the Vehicle system is included last.

VEHICLES
They are fast and they are awesome - vehicles are now available in Entropia Universe!
Take your friends on a road trip, cruising through the varied landscapes of the different planetary systems. Take a joyride along the coast or through the inland, quickly reaching remote locations. Drive through PvP zones, sneak up on opponents in a pimped military car, and crush all resistance.
With this new Vehicle system, the whole community now has the opportunity to build vehicles. Some basic functions and features in this system are described here, but there are several others that you can find when you start exploring the system.
For information on upcoming expansion of this system, see the section Coming Updates of the Vehicle System last in these release notes.

Commissioning a Vehicle
All vehicles have to be commissioned before they can be spawned.
The commissioning feature is planned to be developed further in the future, including designing vehicles by attaching various parts.
How to:
Commission a vehicle by using a Vehicle Commissioning Terminal. Such terminals can be found in selected cities, villages and outposts.

Customize Vehicle
The vehicle can be colored and texturized using the current coloring and texturizing system.

Spawn Vehicle
When the vehicle is commissioned it is possible to use the vehicle in the terrain (spawn it).
How to:
Spawn the vehicle for driving by right clicking the vehicle in your Inventory and selecting Spawn vehicle. Then place it on the terrain.

Pick Up Vehicle
Only the participant that has spawned the vehicle can pick it up. That way it will be returned to your Inventory. If you leave the vehicle out of sight for more than 10 minutes it will automatically be moved to the Storage Facility.
How to:
Use the Pick up action to return a specific vehicle you have spawned to your Inventory.
Use the Recall All Vehicles action, to return all vehicles you have spawned to a Storage Facility.
A vehicle in storage can be fetched from a Storage Facility through a Storage Terminal.

Grant Access to Vehicle
The participant that has spawned the vehicle, or has the right to spawn it, can grant friends different levels of access rights through the Vehicle Guests UI.
How to:
Edit access rights by right clicking the vehicle and selecting Open Vehicle Guests UI, which opens the Vehicle Guests UI.
Add a guest by dragging and dropping desired friends from your Friend List to the Vehicle Guests UI. It is also possible to drag and drop directly from an avatar's status bar (the green avatar symbol) to the Vehicle Guests UI.

Enter Vehicle
How to:
Enter the vehicle by right clicking the vehicle and selecting Operate.
Switch between seats in the vehicle by using the action Next vehicle seat.

Drive Vehicle
Vehicle steering is controlled with the regular movement keys.
To drive a vehicle, you need to fill the tank with oil, which is used as fuel.
The vehicle does not deteriorate from driving or collisions.
The vehicle will be submerged if driving it into deep waters. To be able to use it again, pick it up and place it on safe ground.
If trying to drive indoors the vehicle will automatically be picked up.
How to:
Add fuel by dragging and dropping oil from your Inventory to the spawned vehicle.

Damage to and from Vehicle
The vehicle will deteriorate when taking damage from attacking creatures, avatars attacking with weapons and Mindforce, and other vehicles attacking with mounted weapons.
As a subset to deterioration the vehicle is affected by its Structural Integrity (SI). The SI for a vehicle will be reduced by the same type of attacks as when deterioration occur.
When the SI has reached critical limit, passengers are automatically removed from the vehicle, which cannot be used until the SI has been increased again.
The vehicle absorbs hit points inflicted on avatars from creatures or from area damage. However, with a regular direct hit weapon, the avatar takes the damage if targeted directly, while the vehicle absorbs the damage if it was targeted.
How to:
Increase the SI of the vehicle by stepping out of the vehicle and using the Structural Integrity Toolkit on the vehicle.

Shooting from Vehicle
While positioned in the vehicle gun turret, a gunner can mount a mountable weapon. Shooting with mounted weapons can cause damage to other vehicles and avatars in PvP zones.
Note: Mounted weapons cannot harm creatures.
Passengers in a vehicle can cause aggression from creatures.
How to:
While in gun turret, mount a weapon by equipping it.

Vehicle Inventory
Each vehicle has a Vehicle Inventory, where items can be stored.
Note: The stored items' weights affect the vehicle speed.

IMPROVEMENTS AND FIXED ISSUES
This section presents the improvements and fixed issues in the already existing systems.

Compensations
  • Compensation for reinserting Mindforce implant from before 10.0 is handed out. If you are affected you will receive a message when logging in.
  • Compensation for inactive hangars will be handed out. If you are affected you will receive a message when logging in.
Movement Changes
  • Removed indoor speed limit restrictions.
Attachment Parameter Changes
  • Skill Bonus on Attachments . The skill modification effect now have a clarifying tool tip. The attachment gives a bonus to the user's hit ability and it has full effect when the target is on maximum weapon range. When the target comes closer the effect decreases and it reaches its minimum effect when the target is in the immediate vicinity. Since the effect is variable the hit ability parameter display is not affected by the skill modification.
  • New Parameter on Attachments . A new parameter has been introduced on laser sights and scopes. This new parameter gives the user a skill increase bonus when the attachment is attached to the tool. The skill increase bonus of the attachment will affect the skill that the tool affect. The number does not indicate an actual increase rate percentage but a higher number is better than a lower.

COMING UPDATES OF THE VEHICLE SYSTEM

The features included in today's release are just the beginning of the Vehicle system content. The development teams are already working with upcoming features:
  • Boats. It will soon be possible to cruise the lakes and oceans on the planets of Entropia Universe. Several different types of boats will be available.
  • Aircrafts. Rule the sky with a helicopter or aircraft. Enjoy fast traveling with your friends between different locations.
  • Motor cycles, hovercrafts, tanks, sports cars and other vehicles you can drive on land.
The vehicle system is also the gateway to space, enabling for avatars to cruise around in space and visit various places and planets in space.
The commissioning step is a preparation for vehicles that will be possible to modify more than today´s models. This means that the users can modify cars for a more unique look with special and perhaps rare vehicle parts. This will also affect the vehicle statistics.
New rules will be added to the existing Event system, where vehicles will have a more prominent role. In those events the cost for using the vehicles and vehicle weapons will be adjusted for a much cheaper usage.

KNOWN ISSUES
  • The in-game description of the Structural Integrity Toolkit is faulty. It says that the user is repairing the vehicle by using the tool. The correct description is that the user is increasing the vehicle's Structural Integrity.
