Entropia Universe Version Updates

This archive preserves the complete history of Entropia Universe Version Updates, documenting the technical evolution of the platform and the development of its virtual worlds. Each update represents a snapshot in the ongoing transformation of the universe, from early system foundations and gameplay mechanics to major graphical upgrades, planetary expansions, and platform milestones.

The release notes collected here provide insight into how the real-cash economy virtual universe has evolved over time — including engine transitions, interface redesigns, new systems, balance adjustments, and community-driven improvements. Together they form a chronological technical record of the changes that shaped Entropia Universe from its early years to the modern era.

Use the search function to explore specific Version Updates, locate historical features, or trace how particular systems and mechanics have developed across different eras of the universe.

Some Version Update release notes are currently missing or temporarily unavailable due to the migration from PlanetCalypsoForum to the new Entropia Forum. PlanetCalypsoForum historically served as a primary archival source for Entropia Universe VU documentation, and some older or recent VU posts may not have migrated cleanly or may still be unavailable while the forum transition settles.

Problems Connecting
After the latest VU I cannot connect anymore to Entropia:

After I enter my username/password it says 'Connecting' for about 10 seconds, then I get:
The Entropia Universe is currently offline etc. etc.

I go back to the client-loader and it downloads 2 small things again:
'Downloading prioritized planet content'
'Downloading planet content'

When I click Launch again, and enter my username/password I get the same thing over and over..

Anyone else has this.. solved.. ?

PS: I did a repair, but my installation is valid.

Dynamic Content Distribution Step 2

This release includes the second part of the Dynamic Content Distribution.

We now have support for content download while logged in; you can log in to one planet while downloading other planets' content.

The dynamic content distribution has the following characteristics that you can control as described:

  • Prioritizing download at content releases: At new content releases the content download is divided into two parts: first required content (general content, needed for all planets) and then planet-specific content. The Launch button will be enabled after all the required content has been downloaded. Click the Launch button and log in to prioritize content download of the planet you are located on.
  • Log in during download: You will be able to log in to the client when required content and the additional content related to the planet you are located on has been downloaded completely, even though other planets might still not be finished downloaded.
  • Default download behavior: The default download behavior is that only the planetary system you are located on is downloaded automatically. Within that planetary system one planet is downloaded at a time.
  • Manually handle download behavior: In the Map UI - now the Navigator UI - you can prioritize the download order for each planet and choose to disable or enable download of each planet. You can also check which planets that are finished downloaded and which are not.
  • Pause/Start download: Once logged on you can check the download status in the Download UI. In this UI you can also pause the download and restart it. By default, this UI is open as long as the client is still being downloaded, but you can choose to minimize it.
Improvements when Creating a New Account

Simplified Account Creation

We have made several improvements to the account creation process to facilitate for new users to create an account:

  • The account creation is now integrated in the download process.
  • A new user can open the account creation form directly in the Client Loader interface; the Create Account button in the Client Loader, directly opens the form a new user needs to fill in.
  • The account creation form is simplified and less information is required from the new user at this stage.
Genesis - The New Starting Area

We now introduce Genesis. This is a small client (around 300MB) where new account holders can enter the virtual environment and learn the basics of Entropia Unvierse while the the next destination is downloaded in the background.

Genesis includes a few quick tutorials and short quests aimed at newcomers. This is where CharDef (Avatar Customization) is placed now and the new account holders can also try different garments on and chat with other avatars.

Note: We have increased the variation possibilities for newly created avatars' appearances. Therefore, in a coming release, we will give all current participants the opportunity to customize their avatar appearance again.

Improvements

Miscellaneous

  • Aiming in OTS (Over The Shoulder) view is now more accurate.
  • In Auction UI, improved the search function; included filters for gender, limited and unlimited items, and planets. Using the planet filter will sort out the items placed in the Auction from the planet you selected.
  • Updated the Client Loader appearance during patching.
  • At log in, added "Remember Username" check box for easier log in.
  • The functions are still the same, but the transaction process for new participants, through the web, is updated.
End User Policies

  • EULA and ToU updated to include information about Genesis ("Entropia Universe Starting Area").

Known Issues

  • Some of the new avatars entering Genesis only have their underwear on. However, the orange jump suit is available in the Equipped panel, in the Clothes UI (press I to open), and can be equipped from there.

THE STORY OF MEDUSA’S HEAD

In the first Robot war, the Imperial Armed Forces were pushed back. As they retreated, Special Forces set up a hidden cache of weapons and supplies on an island off Eudoria. From there, they hit the robots both on Eudoria and Amethera. The base grew from a hidden supply cache to a fortress. Defense systems were set up at the outskirts of the remote island, and bunkers and a command center were built to direct the war. From there, they fought back and pushed the robots off the planet!

When the war ended and the base was no longer needed, Special Forces simply stripped it bare and left. For some time, it just sat there, unused and abandoned, until smugglers found it.

To the smugglers, it was perfect. It was hidden and close to the flight corridors to Athena and Port Atlantis. It would be easy for any smuggling ship captain to just slip out of the path and land, or just drop the cargo right down on the islands as you flew over them, without the traffic control ever knowing.

So the smugglers took over.
Of course, it wasn’t that easy. It wasn’t just one smuggler band. There were several, and they fought for control over the base. In the end, the Medusa band rose above the others and a truce was called. Medusa was firmly in control, but as long as that fact was respected, other bands were tolerated. They refitted the old base to serve their needs: Medusa’s Head.

The Medusa band ruled Medusa’s Head for many generations of smuggler bosses. But no empire lasts forever. Kessner, the last boss of the Medusa band, died. The official reason is old age and fast living, but some people whisper that it was murder.

Whatever the cause of death, there was a problem. The problem was that there was no clear line of succession. Again blood was spilt over Medusa’s Head. However, this time nobody came out on top. The government moved in to fill the power vacuum. They didn’t want to abandon Medusa’s Head to bandits and smugglers like they did last time, so they decided to sell the base and all that goes with it to the highest bidder.

For the smugglers, it is a sad end to their tale. The few splinters that were left of the smuggler bands had no choice but to get out of the way or adapt to a new and legal life. For everyone else, it is a new opportunity on the frontier, as the old smugglers’ den Medusa’s Head is for sale!

RESETTLEMENT UPDATE
Harbingers: Strike teams have managed to sabotage and destroy the Harbinger deployment system! The robots’ advance has been halted dead in its track, despite Steelbirds and Harbingers. However, the robot factory in the Hadesheim crater has not been destroyed, and intelligence and strike operations aimed at the crater will continue. Colonists that have not yet signed up as CDF contractors can contact Colonel Briers in the Needle Tower in Port Atlantis.

Medusa’s Head: It is possible to get to the Medusa’s Head islands (not to be confused with Fort Medusa) by going by boat south-west from Port Atlantis, or swim there if you are brave enough. The Medusa’s Head islands are a property that will be for sale. For further details, visit the Medusa’s Head Info Page here.

The Medusa’s Head islands feature:

  • The Bazaar featuring 24 shops
  • 24 apartments
  • A mansion for the owner, overlooking the marina and the bazaar
  • A landing pad
  • A marina
  • An outpost
  • Three big land areas: Deino, Enyo and Pemphredo
  • Five smaller land areas: Naga, Ayida, Apophis, Ouroboros and Bakunawa
  • Sumima and Scipulor DNAs
No more rent: Rent for all shops, apartments and banks have been set to zero. If you have paid rent in advance, please file a support case for reimbursement. Our ambition is to compensate all claims in conjunction with the first release of 2011, which is planned for January-February. Claims made after this release will be invalid.

NEW FEATURES

  • The Medusa’s Head islands
  • Two new Iron Challenges are available from Dizi at the bazaar at Medusa’s Head
  • Rent for all shops, apartments and banks have been set to zero
